Get Help / Report a Problem

Asking for help is part of safe, effective fabrication. You do not need to arrive with a finished file or know which machine to use. Bring the problem, the intended outcome, and whatever evidence you have.

If you are unsure, stop and ask the staff member or authorized student worker on duty.

Choose the Right Help Path

Immediate Danger or Serious Injury

See the UK Emergency Response Guide ↗.

Unsafe or Abnormal Equipment

If equipment produces unexpected movement, sound, heat, smoke, odor, vibration, sparks, or results:

  1. Stop the operation if you can do so safely.
  2. Keep others away from the affected equipment or area.
  3. Do not reset, troubleshoot, remove guards, or attempt a repair.
  4. Notify the staff member or authorized student worker on duty.
  5. Share only what you directly observed. It is fine to say what you do not know.

Project or Process Question

Ask for help when you need to compare fabrication methods, choose a material, understand a file requirement, plan a test, or decide whether a deadline is realistic.

Bring as much of the following as you have:

Training or Equipment Access

Tell the staff member on duty which process or equipment you want to use and what you are trying to make. Access requirements are tool-specific; room entry or a reservation does not authorize every machine.

Review Training & Equipment Access before beginning an unfamiliar process.

What FabLab Staff Can Help You Do

A consultation may result in a test, a revised file, a different process, more training, a later appointment, or a smaller scope. It does not guarantee that a complete project can be produced during the same visit.

Report Problems Promptly

Promptly report:

Good-faith reporting is how the FabLab protects the next user. Do not conceal a problem or keep using equipment in the hope that it will correct itself.
