Choose the right printing page

Installing a printer, checking your balance, and submitting a job are different steps.

What you need Where to go
Check your PaperCut account and balance PaperCut account
Prepare a standard paper print Paper printing guide
Prepare a poster or large-format print Large-format printing guide
Submit a large-format job Customer print queue
Prepare and submit a 3D print 3D printing guide

Use the College-specific printer installation instructions on this page. The 3D printing guide provides its own submission route and preparation requirements.

If a print does not come out as expected

Before sending the same job again, check its status and speak with Print Lab staff if it appears stuck, failed, or charged without producing a print. A second submission can create a second job.

Bring the job name or number, approximate submission time, printer or queue, and the error or result you see. Include the intended paper size, quantity, and a screenshot or photo if helpful. If the issue concerns a charge, include the relevant job and charge details so staff can investigate. The outcome of that review determines the next step.

If you are sending a revised file, give it a clear revision name and tell staff which submission it replaces. Check with them about an existing job before assuming it has stopped.

Troubleshooting

Well this is awkward

The Problem

After installing Print Deploy, there are some instances where there are old settings don't get cleared out, and show the "Well this is awkward" message on Windows computers.

The Resolution
  1. Uninstall Papercut from your computer.
  2. Make sure to DELETE the folder C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\PaperCutPrintDeployClient.
  3. Reinstall papercut from the link above.

Contact the FabLab if this issue persists

Mac: Safari cannot connect during Print Deploy sign-in

Symptom: Print Deploy opens a browser to sign in, but Safari reports “Safari Can’t Connect to the Server” for codprint.uky.edu. Print Deploy remains signed out.

Try this

  1. Leave Print Deploy running. Start a new sign-in attempt from Print Deploy if needed.
  2. Copy the entire address from the failed browser page, including everything after the question mark. The address should begin with https://codprint.uky.edu:9192/app?request_uri=.
  3. Paste that address into another browser on the same Mac.
  4. Confirm that the page says Log in to Print Deploy, then select Sign in with Microsoft and complete your UK sign-in.
  5. Return to Print Deploy and check that your printer list appears. If the request has expired, start a fresh sign-in from Print Deploy and use the new link.

The full link connects the browser sign-in to your Print Deploy session. Opening the general PaperCut account page alone does not complete that handoff. Do not share your session-specific sign-in link or publish it in a support request.

What we verified on September 10, 2026: Safari could not open the sign-in page while the same full link loaded in another browser on the same Mac. Completing sign-in there returned successfully to Print Deploy. The server responded to network and web checks. The reason for Safari’s connection failure was not established; this is a verified workaround for that incident, not a diagnosis of every Safari error.

Mac: printers show Failed after sign-in

Symptom: Sign-in succeeds and the printer list appears, but one or more printers show Failed with an Install button. Other printers may already show Installed.

Try this

  1. In Print Deploy, open My printers.
  2. Click Install beside one failed printer and allow the attempt to finish.
  3. If it changes to Installed, repeat for any remaining failed printer.
  4. Confirm that the printer also appears in System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
  5. Print a small test document to the intended printer. Installation alone does not confirm that a physical print has completed.

If the retry fails again, contact the FabLab or Joe Brewer with the details below. A printer that is absent from your list may involve account access rather than this installation failure.

What we verified on September 10, 2026: Two first-floor queues, GDB-FACULTY-1ST and GDB-STAFF-1ST, failed during a request to the Mobility Print service. The client logged repeated context canceled messages followed by HTTPRetryClient: request timed out. The service was responding when checked afterward. Retrying each printer through Print Deploy successfully authenticated, downloaded its driver, and installed it. All six assigned queues then showed Installed, and macOS reported them enabled and idle. No physical test print was part of that verification. The cause of the canceled requests was not established.

Details to include when asking for help

A screenshot of the error is useful, but crop out session-specific sign-in links. Do not send passwords or authentication codes.

Technical notes for support

These checks distinguish sign-in, deployment, and Mobility Print failures. A successful ping alone does not establish that all services are working.

Service Host and port Purpose
Print Deploy codprint.uky.edu:9174 Client configuration and printer deployment
PaperCut sign-in codprint.uky.edu:9192 Browser sign-in handoff
Mobility Print codprint.uky.edu:9164 Printer connection and authentication requests

The Mac client log is at:

/Applications/PaperCut Print Deploy Client/data/logs/pc-print-deploy-client.log

In this incident, /printer-urls returned HTTP 404 during a direct check. On the successful retry, the client reported bulk printer URL retrieval as unavailable and continued successfully using the individual /printer-url route. That 404 alone did not mean the server was down.

The affected Print Deploy client version was 1.10.3524. Support should inspect the current failure before changing settings or reinstalling. These two recoveries required neither deleting printer settings nor disabling certificate checks.
